[Music Video Theory] LOONAVERSE (Part 4) – Hi High

Beware that this is a very long post!

Welcome back to the fourth and final post of the LOONA music video theory. Previously, I have discussed the events associated with LOONA Odd Eye Circle (first post), LOONA 1/3 (second post) and LOONA yyxy (third post). And now, we will be continuing with the final part of their theory thus far, Hi High. I wish to reiterate that while I believe this is extensive, there are many aspects that I am unsure about and they could have a large impact on the theory. These are just my thoughts and the storyline that makes sense in my head to connect all the videos.

For these music video theory posts, I will be discussing each member’s music video based on the order I see fit (i.e. not necessarily the order in which the releases occurred). My own comments/thoughts will be shown in italics, while all other information will be shown in normal font. (i.e. what we can see visually from the screenshots/videos) Hopefully, this is not too confusing.

There is no emphasis on the animals in this video. Hence why I am not including the table in the post for this round.

Hi High Theory

Their music video seems to be the final video in the LOONAverse story but whether if that is true remains to be seen. Hi High shows us the reunion of all 12 members of LOONA, along with some recurring themes.

The members start off looking at the sky in the real world. And in the sky, it is the moon.

HIH-LOONA-MVT-1HIH-LOONA-MVT-2

All the members at this point have rejected Eden and need to meet up somewhere. The choice that LOONA makes is the moon. We see the moon starts off as a crescent, suggesting one member has already made their way up to. We are then shown ViVi running track and field once again in the same outfit as Love & Live, suggesting when she ran away, she ran towards the moon.

Note that the running action they perform throughout the video is like a run-up so that when they jump, they reach for the sky and slowly make their ascent up to the moon. This is clearly seen via Heejin’s jump at the end of the video.

HIH-LOONA-MVT-3HIH-LOONA-MVT-4HIH-LOONA-MVT-13

We slowly see the members get together. Kim Lip meets with Choerry and they start running.

HIH-LOONA-MVT-5

Haseul and Yeojin, longtime friends, reunite in the grassy fields. They also start running.

HIH-LOONA-MVT-6HIH-LOONA-MVT-7HIH-LOONA-MVT-8

Hyunjin and Heejin meet each other.

HIH-LOONA-MVT-17

The OEC members previously meet with Olivia, who may be still be stuck in a part different world after being left alone by the rest of LOONA yyxy. They use their powers to transport Olivia to the same place, where she meets Yves and they share a smile with each other.

HIH-LOONA-MVT-9HIH-LOONA-MVT-10HIH-LOONA-MVT-11HIH-LOONA-MVT-12

Go Won and Chuu are wandering around the forest and in the background, you can tell they will meet Yves and Olivia. The four of them come together and start running.

HIH-LOONA-MVT-14HIH-LOONA-MVT-16

The final few members who we haven’t seen run yet, including Jinsoul, Hyunjin and Heejin, start running themselves. Everyone jumps and reaches for the moon, which I guess means they go to the moon – based on Heejin’s jump.

HIH-LOONA-MVT-18HIH-LOONA-MVT-19HIH-LOONA-MVT-20

Thus, this completes the reunion of LOONA and the start of their careers.

Or is it? 2 months ago, their company uploaded a reverse teaser. The events of Hi High was reversed! What does this mean? Did something prevent LOONA from getting together? Did Olivia’s evil side come through once again? Or does Yves have something more sinister planned?

Who knows? Until the next LOONA release will occur – To Be Continued.

And that completes my LOONAVERSE music video theory segment. Do you have any comments or alternative theories? Comment below! I would love to hear about them.

Also check out the other music video theory posts, which I have linked in the first part of the LOONAVERSE theory series.

This also draws the music video theory to an end. I may return to do some more (or update some others) once we get more about the storyline. They are time-consuming but a lot of fun to research and write up. If you have any music video you want me to write about and enjoyed my theories, comment your suggestions down below!

[Music Video Theory] LOONAVERSE (Part 3) – LOONA yyxy

Beware that this is a very long post!

Welcome back to the third post of the LOONA music video theory. Previously, I have discussed the events associated with LOONA Odd Eye Circle (first post) and LOONA 1/3 (second post). And now, we will be continuing with the final LOONA unit, LOONA yyxy.

To begin the post, I have produced a small table that tells us information about each member. This will be referred to during the theory but I thought it would be a nice background for us to have before we dive right into it.

LOONA-MVT-KEY

LOONA yyxy Theory

new (Yves Solo)

Yves is probably the most important character in the LOONAverse. She shares the most connections with the other members and her character is the first to be seen rejecting Eden (the third world that makes up the LOONAVERSE).

The music video introduces the concept of the Forbidden Apple, which was eaten by Adam and Eve in the Garden of Eden (the original sin). And the way to reject Eden in this video is done in a similar fashion, you need to take a bite of the RED apple.

new-LOONA-MVT-1

Yves takes a bite of the apple, resulting in her rejecting Eden. Eden has the ability to think for itself, presenting those who live in its world with the person’s desires to keep them there. Eden probably knows of Yves potential in influencing the rest of LOONA hence why she is locked up in buildings and she is observed most of the time on stairs (away from people). But Eden will always fulfils a person’s desire and Yves wanted out, so Eden mistakenly produced an apple for Yves.

new-LOONA-MVT-2

We also see her influence on the other members. Partway into the video, we see Yves play the claw machine game, which is shown to have three coloured lights (the colours of the worlds in Choerry’s music video) and this claw machine basically represents the LOONAverse. However, only some of the members are present as she could only obtain a frog and penguin plushie (representing Yeojin and Chuu, respectively). When she grabs those toys, she grabs an apple instead, suggesting that she presented an apple to these two members.

new-LOONA-MVT-6new-LOONA-MVT-3new-LOONA-MVT-4new-LOONA-MVT-5

We also see ViVi on a date with Yves. This is why I see the guy in ViVi’s video as Yves. And for the date, they go roller skating. Yves presents an apple to ViVi, who must have eaten it. And it is from this point forward, she becomes a robot. Though there isn’t an exact timeline to that.

new-LOONA-MVT-7new-LOONA-MVT-8

We see a scene where she takes a swing at all the animals in the LOONAverse. This is clear that she will be tempting each member. But first, she needs to find the rest of them.

new-LOONA-MVT-9

And that is where Choerry comes into play, who catches an apple that Yves had dropped from above. Remember back to what I said about Choerry in the Girl Front music video. Choerry is finding other LOONA members for Yves. She found Hyunjin (the cat) and she also found Kim Lip (the owl), indicated on her map. I think Choerry is finding the rest of LOONA and presenting the apple to each member (i.e. Choerry was sent by Yves to find the other members).

new-LOONA-MVT-10

Heart Attack (Chuu Solo)

Based on Chuu’s video, you can tell she is very obsessed with Yves. In many ways, she looks up to Yves and wants to be like her. To the point where Chuu wears the same things as Yves, down to the same shoes.

HA-LOONA-MVT-1HA-LOONA-MVT-2

Chuu knows Yves like apples and throughout the video Chuu attempts to give her a green apple. Yves, on the other hand, does not like green apples as they do not fulfil the rejection of Eden. Only red apples will work. Hence the emphasis on the red aspect of the apples in Yves section.

HA-LOONA-MVT-3

As the green apple does not work, Yves reject Chuu, who resents Yves for a short period. But since Eden gives the person what they desire the most, Chuu’s apple turns into red the moment she bites into it. This results in Chuu’s rejection of Eden. We then see a montage of Chuu and Yves partying and embracing each other.

HA-LOONA-MVT-4HA-LOONA-MVT-5HA-LOONA-MVT-6

At the end of the music video, we see Chuu passed out outside the house. Haseul walks past and comes to her aid, waking Chuu up. Chuu’s response is rather weird. She just gets up and leaves. In the background, you can see the penguin and swan together on the window sill. Hence it is my belief that Chuu faked her fainting spell to help locate Haseul or draw her out so Yves can present the apple to her.

HA-LOONA-MVT-7HA-LOONA-MVT-8HA-LOONA-MVT-9

One and Only (Go Won Solo)

Go Won spends most of her time running away from Yves and Chuu, who are working together. From the video, she doesn’t want to reject her version of Eden because her desire for power is too great, which lead to her being isolated and alone. She fears once she rejects Eden, she wouldn’t be able to control herself.

O&O-LOONA-MVT-1O&O-LOONA-MVT-2O&O-LOONA-MVT-3

After a while, she sits down and eats a pineapple, which I think Yves planted as the ‘red apple’. We are then shown Yves and Chuu sitting at the end of the table and eating red apples.

O&O-LOONA-MVT-4O&O-LOONA-MVT-5

Realizing what she had done, Go Won locks herself up and further isolates herself from everyone. But Yves walks in, crowning Go Won. She also hugs Go Won, which seems to tell her that she no longer needs to live alone and has friends.

O&O-LOONA-MVT-6O&O-LOONA-MVT-7

Egotist (Olivia Hye Solo)

Olivia Hye is the only member to not really live in the Eden universe. Her desires aren’t fulfilled in her video, which is what made me believe that Olivia is part of a different world. She may be living in the OEC world.

Based on the video, Olivia Hye has two sides. She wakes up on a bed of white feathers and looks up to see someone looking down at her from above.

EGO-LOONA-MVT-1EGO-LOONA-MVT-2

She slowly makes her way up there, to where the person was.

We then get confirmation that there are two sides of Olivia. The two sides are shown hugging each other on the mattress, showing that they are one person.

EGO-LOONA-MVT-3

But it takes a turn, with scenes of an evil Olivia (red eyes) holding onto innocent Olivia, who is hanging off the edge of the balcony. Evil Olivia lets go and innocent Olivia falls to her death (red feathers). I think the Mobius strip still applies to this storyline, hence why I theorize that she could be living in the OEC world.  At the very start of the video, we see one hand let another go, similar to the way innocent Olivia was let go by her evil counterpart (i.e. it repeats).

EGO-LOONA-MVT-4EGO-LOONA-MVT-5EGO-LOONA-MVT-7EGO-LOONA-MVT-6EGO-LOONA-MVT-8

And in order to break the loop, evil Olivia burns the mattress, along with innocent Olivia. Jinsoul makes an appearance in this video. My guess to Jinsoul’s presence is that Jinsoul told Olivia about the loop (there is a whispering scene) and how it could be broken.

EGO-LOONA-MVT-9EGO-LOONA-MVT-10EGO-LOONA-MVT-11

Heejin also makes an appearance at the end of the video. Remember Heejin failed to get to Yeojin and so has moved onto Olivia Hye and the rest of LOONA yyxy. What Yves and Olvia has done to themselves and the people around them needs rehabilitation, which leads onto the next video.

EGO-LOONA-MVT-12

love4eva (LOONA yyxy)

Based on the description of the video, Heejin brought Yves, Chuu, Go Won and Olivia Hye to fix their egos. Yves, Chuu and Go Won could be immature and have big egos due to their desires. Olivia Hye was brought in for obvious reasons, to rehabilitate her evil self.

The boarding school is extremely strict. But once a tempter, always a tempter. Yves break apart from the group to have fun outside. Chuu takes notices and quickly follows Yves temptation. Likewise, they tell Go Won and the trio have fun outside. Note how this is like what occurred in their solo music videos.

LOV-LOONA-MVT-1LOV-LOONA-MVT-2LOV-LOONA-MVT-3LOV-LOONA-MVT-4

They, however, are not as inviting to Olivia Hye, often avoiding her and leaving her out of the conversation. My guess is that they sense that she evil.

LOV-LOONA-MVT-5LOV-LOONA-MVT-6

Sometimes, Olivia follows the trio outside but cannot find them, leading to her evil side to come out – as seen by the way she stands outside in the forest.

LOV-LOONA-MVT-7LOV-LOONA-MVT-8LOV-LOONA-MVT-9

She also eats her apples, more than the other member to fit in and experience what the trio are experiencing (especially the One music video and the dance break). But this fails.

LOV-LOONA-MVT-10LOV-LOONA-MVT-11

In the end, Yves Chuu and Go Won managed to escape the school. Yves probably knows that the rejection of Eden has bigger implications down the line (i.e. their debut music video) hence why she left the school with her two friends.

LOV-LOONA-MVT-12

Olivia remained behind and successfully completed her training. She is now free to roam the world and rejoin the LOONA members.

[Music Video Theory] LOONAVERSE (Part 2) – LOONA 1/3

Beware that this is a very long post!

Welcome back to the second post of the LOONA music video theory. In the last post, I explained why I started off with the events of the LOONA Odd Eyed Circle (OEC) and the relevant members (Kim Lip, Jinsoul and Choerry).  And now, we will be continuing with the rest of the LOONA member videos.

To begin the post, I have produced a small table that tells us information about each member. This will be referred to during the theory but I thought it would be a nice background for us to have before we dive right into it.

LOONA-MVT-KEY

LOONA 1/3 Theory

Everyday I Love You (Vivi Solo)

From the stylistic choices made to the video (i.e. the retro setting, the lighting during the rapping section in the bridge), I believe this music video is probably the very first video of the entire storyline for the LOONAverse.

The most important part of this music video is the end of the video. After ViVi turns off the lights, she gets a text message, which roughly translates to ‘I’ll be back tomorrow’.

EIL-LOONA-MVT-1

In the video, she becomes attracted to the guy who she meets while on the job. Now, clearly based on the video, we assume it is the guy that sent the message. But I think the guy is someone else. Someone, whom we meet later, who also goes on a skating date with ViVi. I believe the guy is Yves. More on Yves in the next post.

EIL-LOONA-MVT-2

And back in the day, Heejin, Hyunjin, Haseul and Yeojin were all friends. We already know Haeseul and Yeojin were friends based on Choerry’s music video, So the fact that these four girls were hanging together in this video tells us about their budding friendship.

EIL-LOONA-MVT-3

It also shows one very important detail. ViVi was never their friend. We never see any interaction between her and the four girls. We do see her singing into the camera with that retro filter, which I believe she is copying them to try to get into their group.

EIL-LOONA-MVT-4

Love and Live (LOONA 1/3)

So, something happens to ViVi in between her solo music video and this one. ViVi has somehow turned into a robot and requires charging every now and then, in order for her to compete in the relay races that she was created for. Note that there is no indication that ViVi was a robot in her solo music video. She does wear a backpack in the previous video but it was rather flimsy to be considered a battery pack.

On her team is the rest of LOONA 1/3 (Heejin, Hyunjin and Haseul) who also train with her. Yeojin is noticeably missing for this unit, suggesting that she was taken away or left for something else. More will be discussed at the end of this theory. ViVi was probably added to fill in the missing position in their team.

L&L-LOONA-MVT-1

Once again, we see ViVi have a hard time fitting into the group. As she is a robot, she has to take time out to charge her batteries. Hyunjin notices and may have told the other members, who could have teased her for this. We also see the girls enjoying some fruit juice but ViVi is unable to (she stores them in her locker).

L&L-LOONA-MVT-2L&L-LOONA-MVT-3L&L-LOONA-MVT-4

In the end, we see her take off during another training session. She continues to run until her batteries are drained. The reason why? I don’t have an idea that I am 100% confident in. My initial thoughts that she was running away to remove herself from the world. And while that has been suggested in other theories, there isn’t a clear indication to which world she is running to or a reason why at this point. I believe she ran to the world in which the members would be reuniting – as to be discussed in the Hi High post. One theory suggested Eden but ViVi doesn’t make an appearance in Eden beside Yves’ music video – but it was for a different storyline.

L&L-LOONA-MVT-5L&L-LOONA-MVT-6

The same writer put out that ViVi was once part of the OEC world, based on how her eye flashed when her batteries died. I did not pick up on that, so props to that writer – I will post a link in the comments section to that theory. But whether she was traded out for a different member, I am not too convinced as all the OEC had their eyes flash at one point in time.

L&L-LOONA-MVT-7

Sonatine (LOONA 1/3)

Not really an important video in my opinion. It does reiterate some points. The fact that ViVi ran to the point of exhaustion (i.e. her batteries died) is shown clearly in the music video. All her scenes were shot while she was on the ground.

SON-LOONA-MVT-1

All other members had scenes higher up (i.e. on bridges or balconies).

SON-LOONA-MVT-2SON-LOONA-MVT-3SON-LOONA-MVT-4

One member did have a camera shot while on the ground and that is Haseul.

SON-LOONA-MVT-5

Well, what does this mean? ViVi tried to remove herself from the world and this video suggests that she was successful. Which world did she end up in, I still have no clue. Haseul also removed herself from the world and that will be discussed later on.

Let Me In (Haseul Solo)

Haseul is seen finding a plane wreckage, using a yellow car that she was not driving. Someone (could be herself, could be someone else) was leading her towards that plane wreckage for some reason. Along the way, it also seems to show her finding diamonds (her ability).

LMI-LOONA-MVT-1LMI-LOONA-MVT-2LMI-LOONA-MVT-3

But it wasn’t the plane that she was looking for. She was seeking herself but as the white bird. The diamonds lead to her.

LMI-LOONA-MVT-4LMI-LOONA-MVT-5

She finds it successfully and shoot it, thus eliminating herself from the world. Why? Well, my guess this happened after she realized what she is missing out on. I assume she isn’t in the real world in this video and wants to be. And since she eliminated herself from the world, she was shot at ground level in one of the scenes during Sonatine.

LMI-LOONA-MVT-6LMI-LOONA-MVT-7LMI-LOONA-MVT-8SON-LOONA-MVT-5

Also, the plane wreckage should not be disregarded. In Girl Front, Choerry threw a paper plane, which landed on the ground in the desert, while seeking for Haseul. In this video, a paper plane flashed across the screen while the focus was on the plane wreckage, suggesting both were the same. Hence Choerry did find Haseul’s footsteps but could not find Haseul’s physical self – due to her self-removal from the world.

LMI-LOONA-MVT-9

On a side note, I don’t think Haseul died – rather she is free to roam the worlds (i.e. in Sonatine – she was on both a higher up level and the ground).

Around You (Hyunjin Solo)

Hyunjin’s music video seems to be the least complicated. She is shown to have the ability to replicate herself and be at multiple places at once (see the theory link below).

ARY-LOONA-MVT-1

The normalness in this video suggests that she is part of the real world, one of the three worlds seen in the Choerry’s music video.

I also mentioned that Haseul wants to experience the real world. She may saw what Hyunjin is experiencing and wants that to occur.

ARY-LOONA-MVT-2

ViVid (Heejin Solo)

In Heejin’s video, I think she has the ability to bend light. Everything is quite bright, and her world is full of colour. On top of that, a rainbow light is positioned over her eyes. It is clearly different from the real world, which she had left. My reason to why she left will be explained in Yeojin’s part.

VIV-LOONA-MVT-1VIV-LOONA-MVT-2

There were a number of scenes with an emphasis on darkness. Notice how they were incomplete, her back was turned away from the camera or out of focus. It suggests that her ability to bend light is real and may help travel through different worlds.

VIV-LOONA-MVT-3

A French quote was seen at the bottom of the screen during the start of her video. It says ‘I would like to clean. There are tools out there.’ Throughout the video, she is busy cleaning and she enjoys herself while doing so. My thinking is that she is the one helping ‘clean’ the LOONAverse and the mess that was made around Yeojin and Olivia Hye. More on that later and in the next post, respectively. Her green dress, shown in the final image of this section may suggest she is currently focused on Yeojin.

VIV-LOONA-MVT-4VIV-LOONA-MVT-5

Kiss Later (Yeojin Solo)

Yeojin is the only person to not be a part of LOONA 1/3 despite being introduced earlier on (before ViVi). She was most likely taken to Eden after Choerry’s music video, where she was seen hanging out with Haseul and Choerry.

She is also in a colourful world. And this colourful world gives her the desires she wants (aka. Eden). She is treated like a princess and given expensive gifts. She wants true love and she is given that in the form of a frog.

KLA-LOONA-MVT-1KLA-LOONA-MVT-2

As she is the youngest member of the LOONAverse, she is far too innocent and hence wants to remain in this world as her desires are being fulfilled.

KLA-LOONA-MVT-3

Two members have been seen trying to get to her. Heejin is the first member who is attempting to ‘clean up’ by replicating the same world as Yeojin’s in order to get to her by using her power (i.e. bending light). That is also why we see her move in and out of the coloured worlds and also the real world. The second member is Yves, who is seen winning a frog in the claw machine, which is the animal representing Yeojin.

This completes my LOONA 1/3 theory post. I will be posting the other theory posts very shortly, so stay tuned for that.

[Music Video Theory] LOONAverse (Part 1) – Odd Eye Circle

Beware that this is a very long post!

A few months back, I promised a whole set of music video theories. And so far, I have completed music video theory posts for GOT7’s Flight Log trilogy, Monsta X’s The Clan trilogy, UNB’s Sense and Dream Catcher’s Horror Quadrilogy. To wrap up the music video theory segment for this year is LOONA’s LOONAverse theory. Due to the number of videos I had to watch and connect, I had to continually delay the release of it. But I have finally completed it.

Please also note that this isn’t 100% correct. This is just what I think occurred. I know I have missed out on a lot of details and the missing details can easily affect my theory.

To begin the post, I have produced a small table that tells us information about each member. This will be referred to during the theory but I thought it would be a nice background for us to have before we dive right into it.

LOONA-MVT-KEY.JPG

Odd Eyed Circle (OEC) Theory

I want to begin with the Odd Eyed Circle subunit because Choerry and their Girl Front music videos basically introduce the main components of the LOONAverse. But in order to discuss those videos, we need to understand the origins of OEC. So, we begin at what I think is the beginning of their storyline – Sweet Crazy Love.

Sweet Crazy Love (SCL)

Based on this video, the girls don’t know one another yet. However, Kim Lip and Choerry’s paths are intertwined, similar to the way the sun and moon cross paths. When the two members cross path (i.e. Kim Lip is hanging out on the streets and Choerry is in the car), they have a realization of what needs to occur (i.e. their eyes are activated). This leads to the members returning to their dropped bags from the beginning and setting the events of each of their music videos into motion.

SCL-LOONA-MVT-1SCL-LOONA-MVT-2

Jinsoul is the only member to not interact with the others in this video. Instead, she finds the blue betta fish in the plastic bag, while she is on the train carriage. She rides with the fish by her side and encounters someone ripping off one of her earphones (though we don’t see her – my guess is herself, based on the Girl Front music video). The earphone is positioned next to the fish, who tells her what she needs to do (i.e. the sound could go from one side of the earphones to the other), leading her the removal of her eye patch and activating her eye.

SCL-LOONA-MVT-3SCL-LOONA-MVT-4SCL-LOONA-MVT-5

So what makes me think this video is the first video for the OEC (and possibly the LOONAverse)? The ending shows Kim Lip returning to her bag which she dropped. We then see her solo music video in the final moments of the video, which suggests what happens next. Furthermore, each member of OEC is wearing the same outfit schoolgirl outfit that they wore at the start of each of their solo music videos.

Eclipse (Kim Lip Solo)

We begin with where we left off from SCL. Kim Lip walks into the abandoned structure with her school bag, which she drops and proceeds to dance on the red platform.

ECL-LOONA-MVT-1

Her animal is the owl and along with the clothing that she is wearing (which I found someone else had written about on AminoApp – link in comments) and the emphasis on the eye, this suggests Kim Lip is all-seeing and wise.

ECL-LOONA-MVT-3

ECL-LOONA-MVT-2
Resembles an eye

In the events of SCL, she probably saw the need to bring the worlds together. Hence, her dance is a necessary part of beginning the process, similar to how some cultures perform the rain dance in the belief that it will cause rain.

ECL-LOONA-MVT-4

She also needs the help for this eclispe to occur. She sits on the throne, declaring herself to be the leader that brought the unit together. I also believe this is her way of showing herself to be the Queen of the OEC world. The smoke, based on Jinsoul’s video, could also represent that Kim Lip is being transported to another place.

ECL-LOONA-MVT-5

What she also did, which I don’t know if she knew at the time, is that she started a Mobius strip, which in the context of the LOONAverse is a continuous timeline that will continually repeat itself. Confirmation that this occurs is seen at the end, where someone is viewing her, which based on the later videos, it is suggested that this someone was herself.

ECL-LOONA-MVT-6

Dancing In The Rain (Jinsoul Solo)

Jinsoul is shown to be carrying the same blue betta fish AND is wearing the same outfit from SCL, suggesting we are just coming off the SCL music video.

DITR-LOONA-MVT-1

She saw someone (possibly Kim Lip) at the start of the video. We see someone viewing her through a camera lens (once again, emphasis on the eye). Possibly this someone told her to hurry up and put the fish into the tank before the eclipse to travel to the other worlds.

DITR-LOONA-MVT-2DITR-LOONA-MVT-3

She finds an aquarium, where she places the blue betta fish into the centre tank. Prior to doing this, she is shown to be distorting the contents of the tank. This suggests that she can change elements and control the environment (which we see through the presence of rain later in the video). If she can control the environment, she can physically cause the eclipse to occur (or the three worlds to combine), aiding Kim Lip.

DITR-LOONA-MVT-4DITR-LOONA-MVT-5DITR-LOONA-MVT-6

We also see scenes of her inside a fish tank. Firstly, she is singing inside of it. Afterwards, blue smoke is seen coming from the tank. This could be her way of making it to the other worlds OR it could signal the end of her job in this eclipse formation (same way smoke came surrounded Kim Lip once she sat on the throne).

DITR-LOONA-MVT-7DITR-LOONA-MVT-8

At the end, it seems like Jinsoul is looking at someone. The image is incomplete, giving some mystery to the already complex LOONAverse world. Maybe she reunited with Kim Lip start of the video, giving her a stern yet affirmative look that her work is done.

DITR-LOONA-MVT-9

Love Cherry Motion (Choerry Solo)

Choerry starts off in the same outfit as in SCL. She meets up with Haeseul and Yeojin and hangs out with them. This shows that Choerry, Haeseul and Yeojin were once part of the real world.

LCM-LOONA-MVT-1LCM-LOONA-MVT-2

She then notices a cake on the bed, which a cherry on top. She eats the cherry and passes out. Whoever left the cherry cake on the bed is unknown but there are two possibilities. Kim Lip crossed paths with Choerry and hence is part of the real world as well. The other person is Jinsoul, who was seen eating cherries in Olivia Hye’s music video.

LCM-LOONA-MVT-3

Choerry wakes up in a different setting (I think she is now in the OEC world). One of the OEC members attracts her attention in the same manner as she did with Haseul at the start of the video.

LCM-LOONA-MVT-4LCM-LOONA-MVT-5LCM-LOONA-MVT-6

She follows and reaches a field with mirrors, where she interacts with her reflection (i.e. passing of the cherry between the mirror). Hence her ability is interacting and travelling to different worlds, which is an important detail in Girl Front.

LCM-LOONA-MVT-7LCM-LOONA-MVT-8

She eats another cherry and is transported to the same field but it is purple in colour (meaning she has been transferred to another alternative world).

LCM-LOONA-MVT-9

We see her smile at the sky, which is revealed to show 3 moons – each presenting the three worlds for this series. The first represents the real world, the second represents the OEC universe and the 3rd represents Eden). The purple fields is the fourth world as none of the worlds above fit the purple field description. And to see the three worlds in one frame, Choerry would need to be in a fourth world. There is also no rule to there being only three worlds.

LCM-LOONA-MVT-10

Also, every time Choerry eats a cherry, she is taken to a limbo, where she can see and interact Jinsoul and Kim Lip (i.e. the choreography shots). There is also another shot with Choerry by herself looking into a mirror, while in this limbo. Above her is a tree. Importance of this tree will be shown in the next section.

LCM-LOONA-MVT-11

Girl Front

The Girl Front music video confirms the presence of different theories and ideas discussed above, along with the confirmation of what the entire story is about.

The idea of a Mobius strip has been suggested through the ending scene of the Kim Lip video (see above). In Girl Front, Jinsoul is spotted wearing a wristband that is twisted to form a Mobius strip. There is also an entire segment at the end of the video where Choerry throws a paper plane in the right direction, but it hits her back, coming from the left direction. We also get that confirmation at the very end, with Kim Lip looking at herself from afar.

GF-LOONA-MVT-1GF-LOONA-MVT-2GF-LOONA-MVT-3GF-LOONA-MVT-4

Jinsoul, in this video, is stuck doing the same thing. She is kind of like playing hide and seek, where you cover your eyes and count. She looks behind her every single time to see if anyone is there. And she continually does this (in an infinite loop – going back to the mobius strip) until the other members are behind her, which breaks the loop.

GF-LOONA-MVT-5GF-LOONA-MVT-6

I think the most important person in this video is Choerry, as she contributes to the LOONA storyline the most. She spends this entire video walking around with a map. She is looking for the other LOONA members, which is revealed to us when she puts a cat sticker down. Notice that along with a cat, she is also looking for a rabbit, bird and deer – based on the stickers on the map.

GF-LOONA-MVT-7GF-LOONA-MVT-8GF-LOONA-MVT-9

Choerry may be a part of the OEC unit but she also found an ‘owl’ (which in the LOONAverse represents Kim Lip) based on the middle image above, suggesting that she is there under the instruction of someone else. There really isn’t any need to find Kim Lip (the leader of the unit who was theorized to be the cause of bringing the three together, unless you were acting on someone else’s behalf.

Going back to the tree in Choerry’s limbo, the only music video with a prevalent tree is Hyunjin’s music video. Putting down a cat sticker in the Girl Front music video means Choerry found Hyunjin. As Choerry can travel between worlds, she is a likely choice to do some seeking for someone.

LCM-LOONA-MVT-11ARY-LOONA-MVT-1

Choerry also seemed to have located Haseul’s plane wreckage, just it is evident that Choerry is in the wrong world. I will touch upon that later when it comes to Haseul’s part (the next post).

GF-LOONA-MVT-10

So when Jinsoul finds the other 2 OEC members, Jinsoul and Kim Lip join forces with Choerry to find the rest of LOONA. We are also then shown the three moons have disappeared and replaced by one big eclipse. This is the plot line for the Hi High music video, which is all about a large reunion. The Eclipse brings together the three worlds so all the members can reunite.

[Music Video Theory] Sense – UNB

Disclaimer: While I try to keep my posts as short as possible, I must warn that this one is fairly long.

Welcome back to the Music Video Theory segment of my site. Apologies for my very long pause on the segment. I had to drop it for a while due to my studies. I thought I was able to get through it all but it became a little too much, so I decided the best course of action. But I have kept my promise and returned to finish off what I started. Today’s music video that we will be diving into is UNB’s debut video, Sense.

I have previously touched upon the storyline during my Sense review but I did so in a very brief manner. Today, with the help of visuals and more research, I am able to deliver an in-depth description of what I think is going on. If you have yet to watch the music video, please watch it below before getting stuck into my theory.

The Korean Monologue

The music video starts off with a Korean monologue, taken from this YouTube video. Translation goes:

What we desperately wished for
I will remember this moment forever
Let’s never let go of our hands
Your warmth embraced my hands
Approached me like a warm spring
So we can last together
I’ll run to you and hug you tightly
So you don’t have to wait any longer

There are various interpretations for the above translation. A pledge towards each other, their commitment to their goals and/or a message for their fans who have supported them throughout tough times.  Any of these can be plausible for my interpretation.

Setting

During the Korean voiceover at the start, we are introduced to three different worlds. The first features the dark tree (where most of the choreography were shot). The second is shown via the normal lighted hallway, which represents the original world. Finally, the third world is past all the different doors, which represents the alternative world. Any scene which features over-saturation of one colour, odd colours or a wavy effect is part of this alternative world.

mvt-unb-sense-1
The Symbolic Tree
mvt-unb-sense-2
Normal Hallway (Original World)
mvt-unb-sense-4
Alternative World’s Hallway (over saturated with colour and wavy effect)

Jun is the only member located in the hallway. Everything in this hallway is plain and ‘normal’. Compared to the rest of the video, there is no wavy effects or odd colouring (beside that one scene at the very start). Hence, it shows the original world. Here, each individual member of UNB is in their own groups (i.e. Jun is in U-KISS, Euijin is in BIGFLO etc.).

mvt-unb-sense-5

Each of the doors along the hallway leads to one of the other worlds. One of the doors Jun opens leads to the outside alternative world (purple skies). There is also another door to a room which is where Euijin and Chan are sitting in, which seems to be transitioning between the original to the alternative (at the beginning, everything is lighted normally but when we get to the end of the video, the painting at the dinner table takes on the wavy effect). The third door leads to the darkness and the lone tree.

mvt-unb-sense-6

First Door

The first door features Euijin and Chan, sitting around a dining table. A single candlestick is situated in the middle of the table and an abstract painting is hanging on the wall. As mentioned previously, I believe the two are in limbo between the alternative world and the original world. Nothing really happens to the two in the video. However, the room does start to change. The painting on the wall starts to adopt the wavy pattern and Marco (who is freed from the confines of the later discussed circle makes an appearance). I assume the room becomes part of the alternative world.

mvt-unb-sense-7
Note the painting in this picture
mvt-unb-sense-8
The painting has become wavy and fluid-like

mvt-unb-sense-9

I am not too sure but the way Euijin and Chan stare at each other suggest tension. This is just how I am reading the scene, but it may represent competition. They want to compete to the be at the top, hence why they don’t interact too much with each (i.e. due to being in their own teams). However, they realize that the only way they can do so is by working together (as UNB), which may explain why Feeldog is there.

Second Door

In this world, the sky is purple and there are wavy lines, showing how non-linear or unique it is. Throughout this world, we see Kijung, Daewon and Ji Hansol located in the fields. They form a triangle formation, similar to when they are lying asleep in their beds.  My idea is that they entered the alternative world via their dreams. This makes sense to as they want to be at the top, but this is only possible at this time through their dreams.

mvt-unb-sense-3mvt-unb-sense-10

Marco and FeelDog are also in this world. At night, they are standing within this circle made from light. And they don’t get to leave that circle for the entire scene. What is interesting are the stars in the background, making me think they are in the alternative world via wishes. They want to be at the top but for the time being, the only way possible is to continually wish and pray. Towards the end of the video, both Marco and Feeldog are freed from the circle and they roam to the alternative world (including areas in which are transitioning) (see First Door section).

mvt-unb-sense-14

A possible fourth door?

Before we move onto the third door, there might be a fourth door that we didn’t physically see. This door could potentially be the entrance to Hojung’s section of the video.

mvt-unb-sense-11

Like the first room, this extra room could be part of that transitioning phase. At the start of the video, we see the room unoccupied, which is quite eerie if you ask me. Inside the room, we see a bunch of TV screens showing the grey static ‘no signal’ image and a glass box partially filled with water. Hojung later appears in the room and is seen wearing headphones.

mvt-unb-sense-12

Based on my understanding of the scene, Hojung is currently stuck in the original world. The static TV screens represent the work they are doing. Very little or not that successful. He puts on the headphone, which is a clear representation of music but his facial expression doesn’t look too enthusiastic about things.

Daewon makes an appearance in this room, connecting this room to the alternative world. We see Hojung remove the headphones and drop them into the water before the screen become over-saturated in the orange colour, showing that it has become part of the alternative world.

mvt-unb-sense-13mvt-unb-sense-16

Third Door

This room features Jun. He opens the door from the hallway and enters it. In the middle of the room, a bare tree stands. It looks pretty much dead. It represents unsuccessful achievements and goals, as they were experiencing the original world.

mvt-unb-sense-1

Over this scene, Jun has a French monologue, which is quoted from a book (Les Nourritures Terrestres (The Fruits of the Earth)), which is about leaving a strictly ruled society and going onto a new adventure.

All knowledge that does not precede a sensation I do not need.
Looking in the evening as if the day were to die and, in the morning, as if everything was born there.
May your vision be at each near new moment.
The wise man is who wonders afresh.

The quote above simply can be interpreted about starting each day as a brand-new person and not to worry about the past. Take each new day as something new, regardless if you do everything the same as the previous day. The last line is probably the most impactful for the members. They will redebut as UNB (wonders afresh) and once they wrap up the UNB promotions, they will return to their original groups as ‘the wise man’. There, they will be able to bring their experiences and ideas to make their own groups better.

mvt-unb-sense-17

Once Jun touches the bare tree, it lights up. At the start of the video, the tree was not lit up. However, from the French monologue onwards, the tree was bright, showcasing regrowth and hope. The members were also wearing white in front of the tree during some of the choreography shots. White is known to represent innocence and youth.

mvt-unb-sense-15

I think this part of the video represents their belief. Jun believes that he (along with the others) are able to rise to the top. They just have to put in the hard work (i.e. their redebut) in order to be able to where they want to be.

Ending

mvt-unb-sense-18

At the very end of the video, we see all the members return from the alternative world. They enter, via the doors, all happy and thrilled. This represents the group finishing their time as UNB and their excitement of returning to their original groups. But this is not the very end, as the members appear to be partying and arm-in-arm with each other, showing that while on their journey in the alternative world, they formed bonds and friendship that they will live with forever.

mvt-unb-sense-19

Setting The Scene

The video opens up with the guy in his office, which seems to be filled with research into ghosts and darkness. It makes me think like he is some sort of evil destroyer, seeking out evil spirits and removing them from their setting.

drecat_gn_1

The Forest

We then see YH and SY running throughout the forest in coloured dresses. It seems like they are running away from someone (it is shown to be the guy – I think). However, they don’t seem to be hiding from whoever they are running from. Instead, SY looks like she is checking something. Halfway during the video, we see him get a little too close to them. So YH and SY create 3 stick people and hang them in the tree for him.

drecat_gn_2drecat_gn_3drecat_gn_11

The Book and The Mirrors

The guy has a chained book on his shelf. He takes the book and proceeds to unlock it and read it. In the book, it shows how the girls are trapped inside in the book. Their ghost may be bound to the mansion but the evil beings are shown to be inside the book. GY is seen inside the book, falling into darkness. SUA is shown to be held onto by shrunken hands. All of these shows how the members are trapped.  Some of them seem to be stuck in mirrors, which show the parallel universe to the one the guy is in.

drecat_gn_4drecat_gn_5drecat_gn_6drecat_gn_7

Opening the book may have been a bad idea, as the girls start to reappear around him within the mirrors.  He approaches the mirror, where he sees JIU once again.

drecat_gn_8drecat_gn_9

We then see 3 girls (DM, JIU and HD) staring back at him. They do another ritual, allowing DAMI to enter the universe the guy is in and steal the locked book. They take pages out of the book and burn them, setting the trapped members free. (Sua doesn’t burn but the leaves and hands on her do). The passing of leadership might be present here as DAMI is in charge of saving the members.

drecat_gn_12drecat_gn_13drecat_gn_14drecat_gn_15

Freedom

The final stage of their plan is to switch places with him. They somehow distract him by messing up his place, dropping the dream catcher in the process. He goes over to pick it up and realizes that is a mistake (he remembers the 3 stick figures from the forest). He suddenly becomes trapped in the mirror, while the 3 girls are free. Once they are free, they don black cloaks with gold lining.

drecat_gn_16drecat_gn_17

At the end, we see all them together once again. Each wearing the dame black cloaks. JIU has returned to be a leader and one of the girls end up dropping the book. It is safe to assume that they transferred him out of the mirror and into the book. Dropping the book in the forest where nobody would find it seems to be an excellent way of getting rid of their problem.

[Music Video Theory] Dream Catcher Horror Series – Chase Me

Welcome to my latest attempt at interpreting music videos. I will be posting 4 posts for Dream Catcher’s horror-themed music videos, which are all interlinked. I will be posting the theories in the order in which they occur in chronological order (Fly High > You & I > Chase Me > Good Night) throughout the day. Please note that I believe the scenes are somewhat jumbled and I have rearranged them to fit in with what I think is going on.

Setting The Scene

Many, many centuries/decades passed. The camera in You and I and camera in Catch Me is proof of this.

drecat_cm_1

The guy checks into room 808. From the start, it is known that he is a paranormal investigator and that he is investigating the haunted castle, where the girls are bound to (JIU closed the gates to the mansion in the Fly High video). As he struggles to get into the door, the lights flicker, and we see JIU standing in the hallway, holding a doll dressed in red. He sees her but when he directs his camera to her, she cannot be seen in the camera view.

drecat_cm_2drecat_cm_3drecat_cm_4

Once he does get into his innocent looking room, he takes out his files that he had compiled on the girls and started to mark down that he saw JIU. However, his pencil broke and had a bloody nose. No doubt that the girls caused this time. He decides to take a rest, as a result.

drecat_cm_5drecat_cm_6drecat_cm_7

The picture he had acquired is the same as the girls shown in Fly High and You & I, confirming that they are dead and that they have been dead for a very long time. I also remembered that they wore their kimonos in the reverse order, which is commonly associated with the dead.

Let The Scaring Begin…

During his rest, he is hypnotized by SUA. (The way she swung the pendant was like how she rang the bell in Fly High). He wakes up knowing she is there but after turning back, she is no longer there. The hypnosis seems to be the start of something as he starts seeing that his reflection is delayed, and he starts getting nightmares when he sleeps.

drecat_cm_8drecat_cm_9drecat_cm_9_1

We are then shown a ritual scene, where DM is lying on the ground and all the members are surrounding her. One of the items around her, of interest, is the red doll, which JIU was holding onto (SUA is also in the middle). Their plan, whatever it is at this stage is taking into effect. As mentioned previously, JIU was leader after she became possessed/evil in You & I. The use of her doll in this ritual might be a transfer of leadership to another member. This will be important in the next video.

drecat_cm_10drecat_cm_11

Each member takes a turn at tormenting the guy. SY holds the door in place, GY throws books onto the ground. JIU floats in the hallway. YH changes all the room numbers to room 808, confusing him in a later scene.

drecat_cm_12drecat_cm_13drecat_cm_14

The Ending…

At the bridge of the song, we see him inspecting the surveillance system, which I assumed he installed himself. He sees confronting images of himself crawling away from something or someone. It isn’t shown on camera, but we see a flashback to JIU walking towards him. This convinces him that enough is enough, and he brings an axe to his room. He starts swinging the axe, the main goal being to break down the door and hotel, one step at a time.

drecat_cm_15drecat_cm_16

drecat_cm_17

However, when he steps back into the room, we do not see his room. Instead, we see a warm coloured room, shown as one of the rooms the girls used to play in. On the wall is that old picture of the group, enlarged. He smiles in the room, which I am not sure why he does so.

drecat_cm_18drecat_cm_19drecat_cm_20

And that is my interpretation of the video. What do you think happened or do you agree with me? There are still many gaps that I am not sure of and despite looking into some other theories, I can’t think of anything that may fill up those gaps.

Setting The Scene

drecat_yai_14.JPG

The events of the You & I music video is YH’s nightmare. She was possessed (in my mind) when she killed the spider but this could have been a weak curse (as the spider had to be killed before the full curse got to the other members), so the spider’s hold onto YH was weak. So when she is transferred to the nightmare, the curse is lifted and she follows the rules set by the other members (who were strongly possessed). For example, she follows SY and becomes a photographer (as she didn’t know how to get out). There is also a change in leadership, as SY was also the leader. This could have occurred during the forest trip in Fly High.

drecat_yai_1

drecat_yai_15.JPG

drecat_yai_2

Once each member was possessed, they get transferred to the nightmare (an alternate reality) alongside SY. We don’t see much of the others except for DM, JIU, SY and YH. HD is bound, GY interacts with her reflection, SUA is around. Not sure why some members are shown in a limited way and why they are where they are.

Dami & The Glass Dome

For DM, her inexperienced magic powers cause her to become stuck in the dome. As her magic matures, she magicked up a stick and broke the glass.

drecat_yai_5

Yoohyun’s Retransition to Evil (again)

While taking a picture, YH encounters a lady, who turns out to be the spider. Proof that YH had her curse lifted is that she became scared of the presence of the spider. She is knocked out. She then wakes up again with the evil inside her.

drecat_yai_6

drecat_yai_7

JIU at the start is running through the halls. I assumed she had some ‘good’ within her because as she ran around, she looked genuinely concerned and scared. She stops at a spinning top, clearly not want to stop it spinning. Why she stopped? Nobody knows but it seems like she does – as if stopping the top will cause something bad to happen. One of the scenes showing an evil spirit almost getting to her, but we don’t see the aftermath of that close encounter.

drecat_yai_3

drecat_yai_8

It seems like JIU is helping YH by doing some ritual that allows YH the chance to run to a portal that would get her out of the nightmare. That is what we are made to think. But in reality, the dark spirit got to JIU (as I said, we didn’t see the aftermath) and caused her to become fully evil. She baits YH into thinking this plan might work and that she can escape. My question is why would JIU help YH become free while the rest of the members are standing around them and not doing anything? SY is the ring-leader (she is the one in charge of the photos), so why doesn’t she stop them? Because JIU is evil and is tempting YH. Everyone else knows about the plan, everyone besides YH.

drecat_yai_11

drecat_yai_13

The evil spirit is lifted (temporarily) allowing YH to run towards the now closing portal (I think this is linked to the top. If JIU stopped the top, she would have closed the portal and therefore she could not convince YH that this will work).

drecat_yai_4

drecat_yai_10

The leader consistently changes, with JIU becoming the leader after she becomes evil. Hence, why nobody stopped her.

YH runs towards the portal but it closes. And at the same time, the evil returns, latching onto her. As a result, she passes out and the members surround her once again, waking her up.

drecat_yai_12

drecat_yai_9

And that is my interpretation of the video. What do you think happened or do you agree with me? There are still many gaps that I am not sure of and despite looking into some other theories, I can’t think of anything that may fill up those gaps.

Setting The Scene

The girls were once happy and cheerful girls, shown in the very sunny and bright lighting at the start of the video. They seem to be living in this old mansion, which seems to be a boarding school.

drecat_fh_4

How The Girls Became Evil?

The video starts off with JIU finding a spider in the courtyard while on one of their outings. She traps it in a jar and brings it into the mansion to keep as a pet.

drecat_fh_5

After this time, the girls start becoming possessed one by one. We are not shown why this is case until the end. After JIU brings her new spider friend into the house, YH comes over with a magnifying glass and burns the spider alive, killing it. This somehow unleashes the spider’s cursed spirit (an important detail in You & I video), possessing the girl’s one by one.

drecat_fh_13

YH might already be possessed prior to killing the spider as the way she moves in her solo closeup. While it was shown later on, YH spent a lot of time alone while in the mansion (her throwing the paper plane). It was likely during one of the lonely moments she came across the mirror in the garden, which drew her attention. Once she made contact, she becomes possessed, shown by the black paint dripping down the mirror afterwards.

drecat_fh_6drecat_fh_11

The cursed spider spirit caused GY and HD to become possessed. GY was strapped to the bed. Soon after, we see someone’s hand cover her eyes. As for HD, one moment we see her in a bathtub alive, the next, there is a slight tinge of pink in the water and hands are motionless. Possibly, the same person who possessed GY possed HD as well.

drecat_fh_7drecat_fh_10

Sua, Siyeon, Dami

SUA seems to be the leader in this video, as she is always sitting at the end of the table and attention is drawn to her at all times when they are together.

drecat_fh_8

I don’t know how SY fits into my theory. She appears at the very start, holding her bunny doll looking towards the mansion as if she knows what is going to happen (and if that is the case, she was the very first member to be possessed, though I do not know how). She, along with SUA venture into the forest and obtain books (2 from of them, from the image below). It is during this adventure that SUA becomes possessed, as they come back wearing black cloaks.

drecat_fh_2drecat_fh_12

DM most likely became possessed due to the books she was reading. DUA seemed to be holding two books and these books were placed onto the shelves. DM used those books to study music but they might have been cursed and caused her to become possessed also.

drecat_fh_9

Member of Interest – JIU

The video focuses on JIU as the final unpossessed member. Unknown to her, the curse has already created an evil persona (shown when JIU walks in on herself playing the piano). This causes her to run.

As she is running out of the mansion, she constantly checks behind herself, as if she is scared. HOWEVER, I personally think that the evil version is running away from the good version. (Note the navy outfit she was wearing. It is the same as the navy outfit in the choreography shots, which is paired with gloomy skies. And gloomy skies occur because the brightness has disappeared – i.e. darkness arrived). Once evil JIU gets to the gate, she closes it (instead of running out), effectively sealing her and everyone else within the mansion.

drecat_fh_14drecat_fh_15

I think if JIU, if she was 100% evil or 100% good, she would have kept the gate opened and ran out. Instead, there might be some good in JIU, leading to her thinking that closing the gate will be better for the rest of the world (and her friends). We see a shot of her standing on a white cliff, with blue butterflies flying about. They end up burning but the white setting remained, representing that some good is still within her.

drecat_fh_1

The Ending

SUA is seen cutting into their image with a knife. Don’t know the significance of this scene.

drecat_fh_17

We then see the members playing around in the garden before it is shown the members standing still. Seems to show the before possession and after possession.

drecat_fh_16

And that is my interpretation of the video. What do you think happened or do you agree with me? There are still many gaps that I am not sure of and despite looking into some other theories, I can’t think of anything that may fill up those gaps.

I will be posting my You & I Music Video Theory after this one. Chase Me and Good Night will be published soon after.

[Music Video Theory] Monsta X The Clan (Part 3) – Beautiful

Welcome back to the KPOPreviewed’s music theory segment. It may be so long since I posted my last music video theory (for GOT7) that you have forgotten about the segment, but I am still working on it. For more information on this segment, hop over to the introductory post.

Let’s waste no more time and get on with the segment!

Some of the members had a narration teaser released prior to the All In and Fighter comebacks, which featured an oath for their X-Clan. A ‘Last Oath’ featuring all members was released prior to the Beautiful comeback. These narration trailers are referenced throughout the theories.

To make it easier, I will be recapping the events surrounding a character (or a group of characters) as this will prevent me from jumping through different stories. I will provide screenshots to help differentiate moments in the storyline.

Anything in italics is more like my interpretation of that detail.

Overall Theory

Probably the most ambiguous video to try to interpret because it doesn’t contain much of a storyline. I wasn’t sure about how this fits in, so I used different theories to make sense of it. This is just my interpretation which fits the other theories I have published. Other theories have pointed out other factors and weaknesses/flaws.

Each member (excluding JH) are locked away in their own small individual rooms. JH is roaming the halls. Anyone locked up in a room is frustrated and demands to be left out (hence why they spend most of the time pressed up against the door).

JH gives each member an object, visually connected to the storyline in the first two videos. Once these objects are given out, the members become calm and understanding of the situation, which is definitely a very important emotion at this point.

The theory is JH is giving something to each member that indicates a personal flaw or weakness. And by overcoming this flaw/weakness, they can gain entrance to the X-Clan.

Jooheon

Going back to the previous section, JH is confirmed to be the leader, the authority figure, the person in complete control. Whether he is the one pulling the strings for everything in the last videos, we can’t be sure about that (but I am fairly confident here). But Beautiful shows that he is the one that locked them away into their individual rooms. He is the one that gives the members their individual items and he is the one that they follow out at the end of the room.

mvtheory_mx_beautiful_7.PNG

mvtheory_mx_beautiful_16

Shownu

SN is the first character we see and he is seen in a room full of plants. The most important plant of all, in this trilogy, is the blue flower, to which is on display in the glass box in the middle of the room.

mvtheory_mx_beautiful_1

He is given the glass bottle of the blue liquid. His weakness is insecurity. In All In, he lost his father. Without his father, at this point, he was lost and insecure about standing alone (or depending on others). Hence why he drank the liquid as an escape route of his problems.

mvtheory_mx_beautiful_8.PNG

He dumps the liquid and doesn’t look back.

mvtheory_mx_beautiful_15.PNG

Hyungwon

HW is shown to be in a room full of sand on the floor and mirrors everywhere. He is given the magnifying glass.

mvtheory_mx_beautiful_4

mvtheory_mx_beautiful_11

His weakness could be judgement. He faced judgement from his father in the first video, which caused him to be physically abused, leading to injuries on the face. The magnifying glass could be a reminder of this. But rather revisiting those thoughts, he drops the magnifying glass, showing that he doesn’t care anymore.

mvtheory_mx_beautiful_13

Minhyuk

MH is inside a room full of ‘frozen time’ (i.e. pendulums don’t move, balls don’t roll). He given is a pocket watch, which commonly represents time.

mvtheory_mx_beautiful_2

mvtheory_mx_beautiful_9

His weakness is probably his regret that he didn’t get to HW in time. In All In, when he should have gone back to HW after lighting the house on fire, he stayed behind to ensure the job was done. He wasted time, which he thought could now be used to protect HW. When JH gives him the watch, he holds onto it. Once he understands, he lets go of the watch, so time goes on.

mvtheory_mx_beautiful_10

mvtheory_mx_beautiful_12

IM

IM is a room full of money and gold. He is given matches.

mvtheory_mx_beautiful_3

mvtheory_mx_beautiful_17

I am not too sure about his weakness. However, it may be the fact that he has another family/life outside of the Clan. In his narration teaser, he ‘solemnly swears on our honour, lives and everything that we have to the X-Clan to defend ourselves’. In a way, ‘everything’ may encompass the extra life and that the burning of the wealth is him letting go of this for the X-Clan.

mvtheory_mx_beautiful_18

Wonho

WH is locked in a mail room or a bank vault. He is given a pen and ink.

mvtheory_mx_beautiful_6

mvtheory_mx_beautiful_14

His weakness might be loneliness. In every box within the room, there was a letter written from one person, addressed to another. The only time we see Wonho in the video is when he is together with the rest of the clan OR that is he alone. While KH and IM were alone in their parts, they had the capability to interact (IM had the bears and KH interacted with the kidnappers).

Wonho sat down to write a letter, which allowed him to make his first interaction.

Kihyun

KH is a locked up in a very uncluttered room, containing swords and metalwork, which reminds me of the stuff in the Fighter music video. He is presented with a blacksmith’s hammer.

mvtheory_mx_beautiful_5

mvtheory_mx_beautiful_19

Though this seems to be a little ambiguous. WH used the hammer, while JH and SH encountered a sword. Both hammer and swords can be used to kill people and KH’s weakness would be the fact that he killed someone in Fighter in order to get some information on the flowers. I have a feeling that when he did kill the unknown person, he felt no remorse and that it was for the cause. The holding of the hammer may suggest acceptance of what he had done was wrong.

mvtheory_mx_beautiful_20

And that is it for my Beautiful theory! What do you think?

Fighter seems to be set in a completely different world as there is no war and the scenes don’t look like they are a direct continuation. I go on a more Sci-fi route. Whatever that pulsing heart thing is, it ended up sucking the members in OR it killed the members, while transferring their consciousness to a different reality.

Shownu

At the very start of the video, while punching the wall, we see SN’s cell door opening, revealing a red light, allowing for his escape. There are two possible scenarios of who could have saved him. The first being the X-Clan, with JH pulling him to the side right after. The second being JH’s minion (the bears), taking him to the knighting ceremony.

mvtheory_mx_fighter_1

But why was he in jail in the first place? It could be due to his actions during All In video, where he robbed the store for money to help with his father’s treatment. While this might be a different reality, the mind of the individual may play an important part in where they are found in the new reality. SN may have a guilty mind over the robbery hence why he is in prison.

There are also scenes in the video where SH is breathing and the light in the background is pulsing in a similar way to the heart in All In. This kind of proves my theory that they were sucked into the thing, which took them to a new reality.

mvtheory_mx_fighter_4

We later see SH being brought to JH and is knighted, making him the leader of the clan (or a higher up in the clan). Why? SN’s has shown loyalty to JH. Firstly, SN’s holdup at the store allowed JH to steal some objects for himself. Secondly, drug taking is a sign of loyalty. Thirdly, going to jail without mentioning JH as the person who supplied him with the gun.

mvtheory_mx_fighter_8

Kihyun, Wonho and IM

Kihyun is seen dragging a bloody bag (presumably with someone’s body inside). It is assumed that KH is trading the bloody body bag for some information. He is then taken to a room (marked with the X-Clan symbol of X on the door) without being shown the way (bag over head technique) which contains the blue flower grown in a drug house like manner.

mvtheory_mx_fighter_5

mvtheory_mx_fighter_7

mvtheory_mx_fighter_6

Wonho takes on the role of a blacksmith and is building a machine, which is shown later to take the blue flower’s extract and transform them into something else, most likely the gummy bears.

mvtheory_mx_fighter_3

IM is child-like in the video. Playing retro video games (involving teddy bears), surrounded by teddy bears and riding bikes (along with the other two members) with streamers.

mvtheory_mx_fighter_9

The three band together with their resources (i.e. KH = Flower, IM = video game skills and WH – machine) to power up the machine JH, once the three elements come together, joins the members and oversee the production of the gummy bears. The machine could also be used to hack into the security system of the mental asylum and/or prison.

mvtheory_mx_fighter_10

mvtheory_mx_fighter_12

mvtheory_mx_fighter_13

The three members had more important roles compared to Shownu, Hyungwon and Minhyuk for this video. This further proves that they are in a different reality this time around.

Hyungwon and Minhyuk

Their oath (released as trailers for the Fighter comeback) seems to be about being together and how they are interlinked (their oaths reference each other), which is the case of both videos.

The two spend their time during the video in a mental asylum. This might contribute to the fact that they are a couple, as a possible reason to why they are in the mental asylum is that same-gender couples were seen to have a mental disorder in the past. It could also be the fact that HW had eaten the flower (assuming to be just before regrouping in All In) and this put him in a drug-influenced state and altered his mind, causing him to be relocated to a mental asylum. As the oath tells us they are interlinked, this might also be why MH was brought along with HW. They wore stray jackets and looked like they were out of their mind.

mvtheory_mx_fighter_2

JH waltz in as a doctor and present the gummy bears to the HW and MH. While the blue flower extract gave them life, it makes reasonable sense that the flower also has the ability to regenerate the health of the person who ingests the drug. Both HW and MH ate the gummy bears.

mvtheory_mx_fighter_14

End of the video

After ingesting the drug, the members break into the mental asylum in which HW and MH are located, they regroup (because they are a clan after all and after the events of All In, they only have themselves). I think they make their ascent to Heaven but once again a pulsing heart presents to them, which takes them to another reality if we were to follow the same theory established.

mvtheory_mx_fighter_15

mvtheory_mx_fighter_16

Jooheon

Up until now, JH is a very suspicious character. His role in both videos remained the same. He is the ringleader of the clan, so it could be his mission to keep the members together (i.e. save the members from their different realities).

As mentioned prior, JH steals some things for himself during SN’s raid. In All In, he knew where to go for the gun and he passes the bag to SH instead of holding onto it himself. It is as if he knew what would happen (i.e. get locked up). He appears as a king (an authority figure), knighting SH.

mvtheory_mx_allin_8

mvtheory_mx_fighter_17

He appears to be a doctor, an authority figure in a hospital setting. He gives the gummy bears to the members, asking them to choose between the two.

mvtheory_mx_fighter_11

He doesn’t contribute to anything that KH, WH and IM do until they gather the pieces of the puzzle, same as a gang-boss who lets his people do his dirty work. In fact, the common theory is that JH was the one that arranged KH to be kidnapped and shows him the blue flowers.

mvtheory_mx_fighter_18

What I am getting at is that he is an authority figure in the videos and this emphasized many times. But more than that, he knows different things that no one else knows (i.e. the gun and the flowers). So from how I am interpreting the video, it seems like JH has been planning the events of both videos.

And that is the end of the Fighter theory. What do you think?

Setting the scene for the video (Start from 0:37)

The Oath, presented in the teaser of Shownu and IM, do set the scene for the clan. SN, establishes the clan’s union and it seems to be the beginning days of the clan.

The story begins with all the members going around the neighbourhood together. It was rather clear during this beginning part that JH is the leader of this group, otherwise known as the X-Clan. Their symbol, X, is shown throughout the videos and will be referred to often.

mvtheory_mx_allin_1

There are many soldiers wearing black bullying a bunch of old men dressed in white, who seemed helpless against these soldiers. From this, we can see two sides of the field (the black-clothed soldiers – representing the new regime and the white clothing – those that are oppressed by the new regime). The X-clan jumps to their defence and effectively telling the soldiers to go away. HW skips to one of the soldiers and places a blue flower into a soldier’s pocket.

mvtheory_mx_allin_2

Hyungwon & Minhyuk relationship

HW is tracked down by his father, who is dressed in black (and hence belonging to the regime). HW is humiliated with a slap across the face in front of his friends. MH seems to be shocked but knows something else will happen to his friend.

Note that HW is also wearing black. I assume this is for his connection to this authoritative father. There could be a number of reasons to why HW could have been slapped. His (presumed) sexual orientation, which is hinted later on in the video), he is hanging out with people whom his father deem as the ‘wrong crowd’ or the fact that he has the blue flower (its significance will be touched on later).

MH later finds HW wearing a white mask which covers the bruised and injured face of HW. HW was physically punished for any of the possible reasons above. MH is visibly upset at this revelation and gets up immediately to take revenge against HW’s father.

mvtheory_mx_allin_3

MH is aided by WH and IM, who go and burn up the father’s house or headquarters. They are successful as the place burns down but his father is saved by some soldiers.

mvtheory_mx_allin_7

mvtheory_mx_allin_11

The window features an X symbol, which is the mark left behind representing the X-Clan.

The next day, MH goes to find HW but finds HW’s body in a bathtub. It is presumed that HW’s father killed HW as revenge for burning down his house/headquarters. MH spends some time with HW, before pouring in a vial of the blue liquid into the bathtub and getting into the bathtub alongside HW. It is this scene in which many viewers believe to confirm the homosexual relationship between the pair. The final scene for their story shows HW’s hand, twitching while holding onto MH’s, showing one of the different abilities of the blue flower.

mvtheory_mx_allin_14

mvtheory_mx_allin_15

Shownu’s struggle

Alternating alongside HW and MH’s story is SN’s story. Despite being a part of the clan, he visits his sick father in the hospital. While holding the white mask, he contemplates some things and decides that he needs to act.

mvtheory_mx_allin_4

Judging from the context in which we find the white masked, it is the oppressed side’s symbol of strength as WH and IM wear it upon their crusade and it convinces SN to do something drastic. As for HW’s white mask, I assume he was forced to wear it in a mocking way.

Enlisting the help of JH who gets him a gun, he robs a store for some money presumably for his father’s treatment.

mvtheory_mx_allin_5

Note that JH, while going along with the plan, ends up stealing something a little more from the store, which I will talk about at a later stage. This is something I found while reading another person’s review.

Shownu goes back to the hospital with the money but finds out that his father is now dead and that his little trip was for nothing. After burning the money, he drinks a vial of the blue liquid.

mvtheory_mx_allin_12

I assume he got the blue vial from JH and had drunk it due to his unstable nature (i.e. wanted to escape the emotions).

The Clan and the Blue Flower

Between the character’s stories, we see a few scenes of the clan together. I presume this part occurred prior to the events in the video. The blue flower is the common thread throughout all three videos, so it is an important detail.

mvtheory_mx_allin_6

The blue flower can become a drug. When it is in liquid form, there seems to be an intoxication effect as shown by the members. It is assumed that the members take the liquid drug to forget their negative emotions and struggles. Hence, this could be the reason why this is shown during the events mentioned above. Also, it also saves lives as seen in the relationship between HW and MH.

mvtheory_mx_allin_9

The flower is a Delphinium flower, based on other people’s theories. However, for the rest of the theory posts, I will be referring to them as ‘blue flower’. This is due to a lack of time I have today to go back and update everything.

The War (Back to the start of the video)

I think this occurs after all the events above and that HW is alive alongside the other members during the start of the war. While defending their people, they seem to get split up.

Going right to the beginning of the video, it opens up with 3 members (JH, WH and IM) running through a destruction caused by a war (possibly between the black-clothed regime and oppressed wearing white). We then see MH finding HW once again, who is possibly dead from the war. MH feeds him the flower, which is presumed to save this life once again.

mvtheory_mx_allin_18

mvtheory_mx_allin_17

At the end of the video, we see all the members regrouping and running away from one common enemy (assumed to the regime). They go a little further to outrun the regime and stumble across a pulsing heart-like object in the sky.

mvtheory_mx_allin_16

I think the heart-like object represents safety in the video and KH was the one to first discover it. KH had one solo shot throughout the entire video and it seems like he was in a rush going to the members. At this moment, the snow started falling (which seems to be a signifier that the war was about to start, as during the opening scenes of the video, there was snow falling down), which caused KH to ditch his crutches and move faster. The war takes place and once the members regroup, he leads them to the heart (he is the only member visibly happy, while everyone else is quite shocked).

mvtheory_mx_allin_13

I will start off the next part of the theory by explaining what I think the significance of the pulsing heart is.

And that is it for my All In theory! What do you think?

[Special] Music Video Theories – GOT7 Flight Trilogy – Part 1

Please note that this theory may not be right and is just my understanding/take on the video. This is also a very long post!

Welcome to my theory for GOT7’s Flight Trilogy, which was released over the 2016-2017 period. A total of 6 videos formed this theory (Departure Trailer, Fly, Turbulence Trailer, Hard Carry, Arrival Trailer and Never Ever). If you have yet to watch the videos, I have linked a playlist below for your viewing pleasure.

For this theory, it will be extremely tedious to write out each member’s name. So I will be using the following key when referring to the members:

MK – Mark
JB – Jaebum (JB)
JS – Jackson
JY – Jinyoung
YJ – Youngjae
BB – Bambam
YG – Yugyeom

Departure Trailer Theory

The entire video starts off the series with GOT7 going on a road trip. JB is driving while the rest of the members are having some fun. Notice what some of the members are doing (JS is filming the road trip, BB’s face is being drawn on, JB is close to a bird and MK is listening to music). In the midst of all of this, JY goes to sleep.

got7flightpart1-1
Snapshot of members having fun

He wakes up in a foggy environment and it seems he is the only one present in this scene.

JY then wakes up in the room, surrounded by the members. Take note of the surroundings and the members, everything seems to be a replication of the van that they were travelling in the initial scenes (the walls are littered with stickers and graffiti of the same kind seen on the van’s windows, JS is still filming, JB is holding a bird etc.). During this time, JY realizes something is up when JS turns to film JY but simply pans the camera over him (as if he isn’t there). He does make eye contact with MK in the room, who seems to know he was there.

got7flightpart1-2

He wakes up again and finds himself in the van. Everyone is outside. Like in the room, JY does not interact directly with the members nor do the members refer to him, regardless of what is going on. Once again, we see a similar replication of the van (i.e. graffiti on the ground is the same type as on the windows of the van and the walls of the room; same goes for the stickers; JS is filming again). JS’s footage catches YJ flying, with JS following soon after. BB, YG and MK are seen flying soon after. JB isn’t seen flying with the others but instead floats on top of a bed, with 5 other birds flying around with him (the birds signify the other members minus JY).

part1-3
YJ is the first to fly. JS catches it on camera and starts to fly afterwards
part1-3.5
JB is the last character (apart for JY) to fly and he does so in the presence of 5 birds

JY wakes up once again, this time around he is standing on top of a building and he falls down.

part1-4.JPG
JY falls off the building

Personally, I do not think we can really interpret much from this. It isn’t until we get to the later videos that we can start connecting things together to form a proper story (i.e. why the members are flying; why JY is alone and cannot interact with the members; what really happened to the van).

Fly Music Video

The music video continues on where we left off in the trailer. It is assumed that JY falls off the building and join in with the flying fun. But it turns out he is the only one unable to fly and this only becomes a realization once he continues to drop while his friends continue to fly about. Also, I think at this moment he realizes that something bad happened to his friends, which can be implied through the teardrop while falling down. The rest of the members see JY falling down very fast. He then eventually falls into the mist and wakes up once again.

part1-5
As JY falls down, he cries. Most likely because he realized something happened to his friends.

The music video’s second half is all we got to contribute to the storyline but it is probably one of the most defining moments of the trilogy. However, what did actually happen to his friends has not been explicitly visualised in the music video. It has only been implied. All we know for now that JY is alone and he knows he is separated from his members.

Turbulence Trailer

We deviate a little from the storyline in this video with the entire GOT7 group on a flying plane. The members are mucking around of the plane in a similar manner to the car trip (JS is filming once again, BB’s face is drawn on again and cushions are thrown about). JY, on the other hand, is watching their antics once again but sitting away from the members. He also listens to music, which he does with MK during the car trip.

The plane then experiences some turbulence. JY tries to get to warn his friends however the flight attendant tells him to remain put. The rest of the group, ignoring the warning messages and lights, continues mucking about. The turbulence gets worse, so JY tried to warn the members once again but was held down by the same flight attendant (who also forced an oxygen mask onto him).

part1-7.JPG
Flight attendant tells JY is stay put.

The video then shows JY sliding into a tank filled with water. He then wakes up, realizes where he is and struggles within the tank. We then are shown YJ opening a birdcage and removing the bird from its confines. We are then returned to the plane with the other members, along with flashbacks from both the Departure Trailer and Fly music video.

JY then wakes up at the scene of a plane crash. He is saved by paramedics but none of the other members are around. He turns to the side to see JS’s video camera lying about with footage from the trip.

part1-9.JPG
JS’s camera found at crash site

I think this is the video that confirms that the members (excluding JY) are dead. The plane isn’t real but rather another representation of the van seen in the Departure trailer (proven by the presence of the footage on the camera).  The video also gets somewhat cryptic with the YJ’s scene. My guess is YJ is freeing JB from the confines of the cage, as JB is the only member with a bird during the Departure trailer (and isn’t represented by a bird when he dies).

Throughout this video (and Never Ever) we get a glimpse into what happened during the accident.  The first thing we see in this video is the members at the wreckage site. Firstly, notice how we don’t see a plane but rather a car, which suggests that in this scenario, the plane represents the car. Secondly, every member is outside of the car with JY being the only member stuck in the car. Given that only JY survived, it is likely that the rest of the members returned to save JY but perished in the process.

The following I didn’t pick up until I watched the YouTube link and read some of the other theories below. We see JS on the plane, which suggest he may have died in the vehicle. BB grabs onto the oxygen mask in the ambulance, suggesting he died on route to a hospital. JB’s surroundings (floating green trees) suggest he made it to the surface but went back to save the others. He is later seen surrounded by the same trees but they are dead. JY, in the midst of this, starts to float up like how JB does in the Departure trailer but is dragged back down by the members (which confirms that the members went back).

JY flies up like how JB does in the Departure Trailer, but is pulled down by the other members right after

MK, during the second verse, is seen only in the plane wreckage, suggesting that he may have gotten stuck when trying to save JY (this becomes a little more clearer in the Never Ever video). YG was seen outside of the wreckage (which becomes an important detail in the next video). Note that both MK and YG’s scenes alternate between the plane and car wreckage. In JB’s next scene (with the dead trees), we also see him opening the bird cage and getting into the bird cage, which instantly transitions of YJ’s scene where he takes out the bird (which confirms that JB dies as well). We also see for a very small fraction of a second worth of YJ and the birdcage at the wreckage site (with YJ in white). In my culture, white is commonly worn as the colour of mourning. But I am not sure if this is relevant.

got7flightpart2-3
JB was previously in the same scene with green trees. Here, the trees are dying.

JY is in a box filled with water, representing the car filling up with water. YJ is outside of the box (in the ocean) and smashes the glass (i.e. break a window) to get JY out. From the Departure trailer, YJ flies first so he dies first. Hence, this very act caused him to lose his life. The other members (apart from YJ) swims to JY to help him.

Hard Carry is filled with different details which may look very complicated. But once you kind of list things as they happen in the video, you see bits and pieces come together. One of my working theories is that YJ represented teamwork in this (and Never Ever) as when he smashes the window, all the members come along to help JY. While this is plausible, I may have put too much thought into the one scene, hence why I didn’t include it into the main section.

Never Ever Music Video

I skip to the Never Ever video because it follows on from the Hard Carry video. The Arrival Trailer seems to occur after and concurrently with the Never Ever video.

The video starts off with JB inside a car on the passenger side, filled with plants. But no one is driving. This suggest that JB had no control over the van prior to the accident. We then see JY inside the car, surrounded by plants. If you skip forward, JY is in a similar glass box as Hard Carry, surrounded by plants. Hence, the glass boxes represents the confines of the car. We also see MK with the reflection of water on his face, standing outside the car (which goes back to MK dying in/next to the plane wreckage while saving JY). Finally, JS’s impact with the wall occurs at the same time as the car/van makes impact with the bridge, which is also the same bridge which the group was driving along in the first video.

At the end of the first chorus, we see JB drowning on the outside of the car, alongside the sinking car, which confirms that he drowned. We then see YJ (dressed in white) smashing the glass once again, with MK being the one to save JY this time around. After smashing the glass, we do see YJ unable to do much because he is on the other side of the fence, which prevents him from helping MK, which confirms his final actions were the ones that killed him.

In the bridge and final chorus, we focus more on the hospital scenes (i.e. aftermath of the rescue mission). Only YG, BB and JY appear here. BB is shown to breathing through another gas mask, suggesting he died due to lack of air. YG seems to be the only member (other than JY) to make it to the hospital bed but dies while the staff are trying to save him (shown through the transition between the two), while the video ends with JY waking up once again. There is something about his face that has me thinking that he finally works out what happened to the other members.

YG in the hospital hallway

So here is an extremely quick rundown of the order of events, which doesn’t make that much sense, out of all honesty. Car goes underwater, all the members (excluding JY) gets out. YJ realizes JY is left behind and goes back to smash the windows to get him out but dies along the way. JS dies next, for unknown reasons. BB most likely drowned but does get picked up by some rescuers, who are unable to save him. JB makes it to shore but realizes what is happening to the members, so he goes back in to search for them. MK goes back and saves JY by going through the hole created YJ. MK’s successful rescue attempt manages to get JY out but he gets stuck and drowns as a result. YG manages to get rescued but dies on route/at the hospital. It is presumed that JB got lost while still searching for the others but no one can find him. As a result, he is presumed to have died.

That is my understanding of the order of events. JB dies last as shown by his scene with the 5 birds in the Departure trailer. JS’s death is the only one that doesn’t fit the timeline exactly. We can assume his impact with the concrete shown in this video signifies he died on impact but that would mean he is the first to die (whereas YJ is shown to die first with JS following shortly after). It is plausible that the impact caused his injuries which lead to his death (assuming that the impact collision hindered his possibility of swimming back to the surface).

Arrival Trailer

The end of the entire trilogy seems to be presented in the Arrival Trailer. Note that parts of this video occurs concurrently with the events in Never Ever (i.e. mainly the following paragraph).

got7flightpart2-9
JY washed up on the beach, alone

JY wakes up on the beach and realizes he is alone. This scene is a little ambiguous as it could be the scene in which he makes it to shore. Using this thought process, he remembers the events in the water, which leads to the written commentary of ‘I was trapped’. He also says ‘I failed’, which seems to be in reference to him not being able to get to his friends. The more likely scenario of what is happening can be told through the line ‘I don’t exist anymore’, as he believes he is in limbo (and why the video seems to emphasis the loneliness of JY in this scene). This is further proven by the next scene, where he wakes up in the hospital (same ending as the Never Ever video).

We then move back to JY in the snow. The following commentary is given. ‘Most people when they fail, they just give up and don’t challenge themselves. But I’m different. I will never give up. I am not afraid of anything because you were there. I am ready to fly‘. We then see the other members playing off in the distance with JY noticing them and looks at them from a distance. There is a smile on his face.

GOT7 members (excluding JY) having fun in the snow

The above scene could easily be a message for fans to not give up, even during life’s hardest moments. It also shows JY commitment to continue living, as he has everyone around him, even though they are not physically there. But I think otherwise. I think JY is still barely holding on and that he still slips in and out of consciousness. He has only seen the other members in one scenario, when he was in danger of dying (i.e. unconscisouness). Hence, the only possible way for him to see them is if he is unconscious. But in all of the other scenarios, JY directly attempted to help them or be with them (i.e. getting up on the plane, struggling to get out of the confines of the box, jumping off the building to fly). The other members saved him in each scenario (JY waking up at the end of each scenario). So rather than trying to be with them in the moment, he learns that this around he has to accept death, whenever it comes. This does mean he gets to live but accepting death is the only way he can one day join them, without alerting the others to his dangers.

And that is my take on the Flight trilogy. What do you think of the music videos and the storyline?

[Special] Music Video Theories: Introduction

If you read my reviews, you will notice that I have an entire section for the music video for each comeback. But what you may notice is that my interpretation of the music video is shockingly terrible (mainly because I am writing and posting the review within hours of its release – no time for research). In many cases, I don’t really talk about how they connect with other music videos. So, I have decided to go back to some music videos (particularly the videos in a series) and re-interpret them myself.

So how am I going to do this? Well, it consists of rewatching each music video and making thorough notes on the details of the video, which should allow me to form some understanding of the video. It will also involve reading up on theories which other fans have released. This will help me solve gaps in my interpretation of the music video, mainly because I am not well-versed in literature, arts and the artistic side of the English language. I will link the theories that I look at and take from at the end of each post.

The basic layout will have me recapping the events of the music video and various connections to other videos. I do some comparisons between my recount of events and other theories so it is easier for you to differentiate what is different with mine, while also showing you how I interpreted the video.

This is just my opening post that introduces the entire segment as I rather just jump right into the theory and avoid wasting your time with a repetitive introduction. Judging from the featured image, you might be able to guess which artists I will be having a closer look at. The schedule (which may change) will occur as follow:

27th of June – GOT7 Arrival Trilogy [ Part 1 / Part 2 ]
18th of July – Monsta X The Clan Trilogy
1st of August- Dream Catcher Quadrilogy
15th of August – LOONA Pre-debut Music Videos Theory
29th of August – UNB Sense Music Video

For the time being that is what the current lineup for this segment will be. Due to the work and time that is being put into these posts, I can only do 6 for now. If there are any music videos that you want me to do theories for, feel free to comment below and I may return to do another set at the end of the year.
